BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference named Arkansas Razorbacks junior outfielder Luke Bonfield SEC Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Bonfield was instrumental in the club going 4-0 over the past week with wins against Missouri State and a series sweep of the Georgia Bulldogs. He hit an even. 400 during the stretch along with two home runs and two multi-RBI performances.
The IMG Academy product is hitting .339 in conference games with four home runs and 14 RBI. His hit, RBI, home run, and slugging percentage are in the top-10 in the SEC in league play.
Bonfield is presently hitting .329 on the season, the third-highest average for the Razorbacks, with 15 of his 48 hits going for extra bases. His seven home runs are just one off from his total last year and his 35 RBI are the second-highest total on the squad behind Chad Spanberger’s 36.
The Skillman, New Jersey native wins his first of his career and the first for a Hogs player in 2017. Bonfield will be back in action Tuesday night when the Razorbacks host the Memphis Tigers at 6:30 p.m. at Baum Stadium with Phil Elson calling the action, which can be heard on Fox Sports Radio 1400 immediately after the Arkansas High-Hot Springs game.
