TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Texas Police Department arrested Devonta Henderson after the 25-year-old turned himself in Saturday.
Henderson has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he shot his gun into the ground and the bullet ricocheted and struck a 14-year-old boy in the leg playing basketball, police say.
Police responded to a 911 call from Henderson at the Town North Apartments in the 4600 block of Elizabeth Street stating that he wished to turn himself in. Officers rendezvoused with Henderson near the apartment complex entrance and took him into custody without incident.
On April 10, TTPD responded to a call in the 2000 block of West 17th Street due to a shooting that struck a 14-year-old male in the leg. Witnesses identified Henderson as the shooter before fleeing the scene on foot. Police say the incident was over someone in the group of which the 14-year-old was in owing Henderson $5.
An arrest warrant was later obtained for Henderson. His bail has been set at $100,000 and he is being held in the Bi-State Jail.
