Texas earns worst start since 2002 with 9-1 loss at Oakland

OAKLAND — The Rangers secure their worst start since 2002 with a 9-1 loss today in Oakland.

Texas has lost 5 of their last 6 games and finish 9 game road trip at 3-6. Martin Perez gave up four runs in the first inning to give Oakland the early lead.

Perez was replaced by Mike Hauschild in the fourth inning with two outs and no runners on. Hauschild took the Rangers all the way to the 7th inning giving up five runs. Perez had allowed just one run in 10.1 IP in his last 2 starts, and his 2.20 ERA was lowest among Texas starters.

Joey Gallo continued to hit long home runs with his 437ft bomb to center field to lead off the 5th inning. Gallo’s average is just .188, but makes up for it with 3HR, 10RBI, and 8BB.

The Athletics were dialed in at plate thrashing the Rangers for 14hits. Texas is now 3-3 this season vs Oakland and just 2-7 against all other opponents. The A’s come back to Texas May 12th – 14th.

The Rangers return home today to begin their 9 game 10 day home stand starting with four games vs Royals tomorrow. Texas looks to improve on worst start since 2002 when the Rangers finished fourth in AL West with a record of 72-90.
