The Arkansas High Razorbacks have not started 6-0 in conference play in a very long time, at least as far back as Max Preps’ records on the matter are concerned. Nonetheless, it represents a reality that the once-state champion program has not had such a conference winning streak since Facebook became open access.
The Hogs have an opponent in their way in the Hope Bobcats that, paired with the De Queen Leopards next week, could be considered a trap game duo. Arkansas High is first in the 5A South with a perfect 5-0 mark. The lone losses for second-place Camden Fairview and Little Rock McClellan are none other than those given by the Razorbacks.
Coach Barry Norton won state championships with the Texas High Tigers right across State Line Avenue. Just as he helped Arkansas High take a more disciplined, championship caliber approach off the field and on the field to play like they belong in Little Rock competing in deep November, so too is he helped the Hogs learn how to handle success.
Norton has a reliable senior playmaker in Cameron Collier who has pulled double duty as a hard-hitting corner and a galloping running back. Collier and company will have to treat the Bobcats like the Crimson Lions or Cardinals and not let their apparent lack of success lull them into a loss.
