TAMUT and Bowie County Master Gardeners – Free Gardening Workshop

TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana and the Bowie County Master Gardeners will host a free gardening workshop on “Raised Beds and Compost Tea” on Monday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. in Science and Technology 306 on the A&M-Texarkana campus, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.

Raised garden beds are great for growing small plots of vegetables and flowers. They keep pathway weeds from the soil, prevent soil compaction, provide good drainage and serve as barriers to pests such as snails.

Compost tea is made by steeping compost in water. It is used as either a foliar spray or a soil drench, depending on the needs of the plant.

The Bowie County Master Gardeners is a volunteer organization of horticultural enthusiasts. Master Gardeners receive extensive training in horticulture and provide volunteer service through approved projects in their communities.

To register for the class, contact Shelley Caraway, executive director of Extended Education and Community Development, at (903) 334-6683 or write to EECD@tamut.edu.
