Harmon, Cleveland, Johnson earn recognition from Dewey Moore Ford

 

Sophomore quarterback Ben Harmon ran for one touchdown and passed for four more last Friday night as Pleasant Grove celebrated Homecoming with a 49-0 win over Tyler Chapel Hill.

Harmon’s performance has earned him the Fox Sports Texarkana/Dewey Moore Ford Player of the Week.

The Hawks’ multi-talented signal-caller completed 8 of 12 passes for 236 yards against Chapel Hill. Harmon has now completed 30 of 58 passes in five games for 696 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Pleasant Grove, fourth in AP’s Class 4A poll, travels to play top-ranked Carthage this week.

Hogs’ Cleveland first defensive honoree

Arkansas High’s Tre Cleveland is the first defensive player honored by ESPN Texarkana/Dewey Moore Ford in 2018. Cleveland had 14 tackles, including 12 solo stops, in Friday’s 27-12 win over Camden Fairview.

The Razorbacks’ offense sputtered on third down against Fairview, relying instead on the defense and special teams, earning Cleveland the ESPN Texarkana/Dewey Moore Ford honor.

AHS faces another tough test this week at Hot Springs Lakeside, which piled up 77 points in beating Magnolia last Friday.

L-K’s Johnson first repeat selection in 2018

Linden-Kildare’s Ladavion Johnson scored five touchdowns and rushed for 179 yards on 17 carries last Friday as the Tigers remained unbeaten with a 57-8 victory at Harleton.

The Tigers trailed early, exploding for 37 points in the second quarter to pull away. Johnson earned the KPYN/Dewey Moore Ford award by scoring on runs of 28, 5, 8, 3 and 77 yards. Four of Johnson’s touchdowns came in the big second quarter.

Johnson currently leads Northeast Texas in scoring with 68 points and rushing with 822 yards.

L-K faces its toughest test of the year this week when Garrison comes calling.
