New Year brings new Mayor.
Allen Brown is now officially the Mayor of Texarkana Arkansas. Brown was sworn in Tuesday morning at a ceremony held at the First United Methodist Church of Texarkana Arkansas.
Retired Judge John Stroud Jr. administered the oath of office at 11am inside the beautiful church. Stroud complimented Brown prior to swearing him into office. He cited his faithfulness to the church and the community. He specifically cited Brown’s work on the building committee after the Church was badly damaged by a fire back in the early 1990’s.
A large crowd of well wishers was on hand to witness the event. They included family, friends, church members. There was business colleagues, and political leaders from both sides of the city there as well. Allen’s wife Shelby held a Bible as he recited the oath of office.
The new Mayor is the CEO and President of Mil-Way Federal Credit Union. He is also the Chairman of the Board for the Live United College Bowl Game. He ran unopposed in the November election. Former Mayor Ruth Penney Bell decided not to run for a second term.
Brown will preside over his first City Board of Directors meeting next Monday, January 7th.
Earlier New Year’s morning Cathy Hardin Harrison was sworn in as the first female County Judge in Miller County history. That ceremony was held inside the Miller County Courthouse. She will preside over her first Quorum Court meeting later this month.
Fox Sports Texarkana would like to congratulate both Brown and Harrison on their election victories and wish them well as they begin their terms in office.
