Pleasant Grove ran for 404 yards, forced six turnovers and spoiled Liberty Eylau’s homecoming with a 51-14 win at Harris Field Friday night.
The Hawks (4-0) took the opening kickoff and drove 67 yards in 9 plays on a drive that consumed more than seven and a half minutes of the first quarter. Josh Roberts ended the drive with a three yard touchdown run.
Liberty Eylau’s first possession of the game lasted only three plays before Chauncey Martin made a diving interception of a Decorian Phillips pass at the PG 49 yard line. Three plays later Bruce Garrett scored on a six yard run to make it 14-0 PG.
On the Leopards next possession, Phillips hit Isiah Cross with. 67 yard touchdown to bring the Leopards to win 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Garrett scored again in the second quarter from 16 yards out, however Cedric Dickerson intercepted a pass attempt by Brett Walker following a bad snap on the PAT try and returned it 100 yards for LE to make the score 20-8.
Phillips would score on a 40 yard run for LE to cut the lead to 20-14. That’s as close as the Leopard would get.
After LE intercepted a pass from Ben Harmon with 1:33 left in the half, it looked like the Leopards might take the lead beds re halftime.
Chauncey Martin’s fumble recovery before the half resulted in a long field goal
However Chauncey Martin recovered a Leopard fumble with 26 seconds left in the half, giving PG one last chance to score. With four seconds on the clock Dillon Williams hit a career long 41 yard field goal to send the Hawks into the leopards locker room with a 23-14 lead.
The second half opened with a disastrous start for Liberty Eylau. On the third play of the half Phillips was sacked by Drake Fowler and PG’s Austin Toler scooped up Phillips fumble and rumbled 10 yards into the end zone to make the score 30-14. Phillips was injured on the play and would miss the Leopards next possession with a shoulder injury.
A turnover on downs ended the next Leopards drive at the Hawks 20 yard line. PG drove down the field in ten plays, using another five minutes of the clock. Martin scored from five yards out to up the lead to 37-14.
LE (1-3) fumbled the ensuing kickoff which Martin recovered at the 15 yard line. TJ Cole finished that two-play drive with a four yard run, making it 44-14.
Martin struck again, first scoring on a 48 yard run to make it 51-14, and on the next Leopard possession, he intercepted a Phillips pass in the end zone.

Cole gained 132 yards on twenty carries.
Martin ran for 103 yards, scored two touchdowns, intercepted two passes and recovered two fumbles.
