FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas Razorbacks G Isaiah Joe was named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.
Joe scored 34 points and connected on 10-of-13 3-pointers to lead the Hogs to a 121-89 win over FIU on Saturday. Joe joins Courtney Fortson (Dec. 15, 2009) as the only Arkansas freshman to earn the SEC Player of the Week honor.
The Fort Smith native’s 34 points were the most by an SEC player this year, and were tied for the second on the Hogs all-time freshman scoring list behind Bobby Portis’ 35 versus Alabama in 2014. Joe’s .764 3-point percentage ties for the best in conference history for those that have made at least 10 in a game. Alabama’s John Petty went 10-of-13 last season, achieving a .764 percentage with those qualifications.
Sophomore F Daniel Gafford was named SEC Player of the Week earlier this season. Joe and Gafford are the only Hogs to have scored in double digits in each of the six games into the 2018-19 season.
