
Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s softball team gets a second chance Saturday against Sterling College and Webber International at Bramlett Field in Spring Lake Park.
The Eagles (0-2) couldn’t hold 3-1 and 4-2 leads against Sterling College, and lost in eight innings, 7-5. It was never close in Friday’s second game, with the Florida squad from Webber International prevailing, 12-1. Saturday’s first game is set for 1:30 p.m.
Brooklyn Botts gave Sterling an early 1-0 lead with a home run. The Eagles answered back with their first three runs of the season in the bottom of the first.

Hannah Cooper homers for host Eagles
Junior Morgan Bullock tripled home Kayla Mahan, who had walked. Hannah Cooper followed with a two-run roundtripper.
A&M-Texarkana made it 4-2 in the third after sophomore Jewels Caro walked. She scored on a long double by Gracelyn Spring.

Tied 4-4, the Eagles stranded the potential winning runs at third in both the sixth and seventh innings. Sterling scored three runs in the top of the eighth, Texarkana making it 7-5 on a run-scoring single by freshman Lauren Huff. The host team stranded the potential tying runs.
Senior Cassie Vasquez of Mesquite, Texas, was the losing pitcher against Sterling College, which is located in Kansas. Senior Ashley Nipper suffered the loss against Webber International.
Webber International scored three runs in the first and second innings to capture early control.
