Pittsburg spoils Leopards’ Senior Night
The mistake was letting Pittsburg senior Jalen Jimmerson get his hands on the basketball with five seconds left in overtime.
Liberty-Eylau was leading 83-82 on Howard Barron’s layup with six seconds on the clock. The Pirates got the ball in to Jimmerson, who raced past a Leopard player and threw up what appeared to be a prayer from underneath the goal. The ball went up to the top of the backboard and dropped down for the game’s decisive two points, and an 84-83 win.
Jimmerson was out to spoil L-E’s Senior Night from the beginning. He scored 8 of his 38 points in the first quarter to give the Pirates an 18-18 lead on their way to Pittsburg’s first win of the season. The Bucs entered the game 0-21. L-E falls to 15-10 and 2-5 in District 15-4A.
Atkins, Williams spark L-E rally
He added 8 more points in the second quarter, but the Leopards stole the lead behind the play of Kentraile Atkins and Dominique Williams. Atkins scored 7 of his team-high 23 points in the second quarter, while Williams tallied 6 of his 12.
Dominique Allen buried three 3-pointers in the third quarter, and the Pirates regained the lead with 26 points. Once again Jimmerson had 8 points in the quarter.
It was Jimmerson’s two free throws with 25 seconds left in regulation that forced the extra period. L-E had 21 seconds to try and win the game, but turned the ball over with five second left. Jimmerson missed a 40-footer at the final buzzer, having scored 7 points in the fourth quarter. He added 5 more points in the overtime.
The Leopards struggled all night in the fast-paced encounter. L-E had 23 turnovers and were outrebounded 45-38, Jimmerson pulling down a game-high 12.
Barron poured in 16 points for L-E, with Isaiah Cross contributing 10 points.
Hawks eye second seed in district
PARIS, Texas – Pleasant Grove can claim second place in District 15-4A after sweeping North Lamar with a 47-45 win Tuesday night in the Panthers’ gym.
The Hawks’ regular season ends at home Tuesday against crosstown rival Liberty-Eylau. The Leopards will be the district’s fourth seed in the playoffs.
North Lamar took early control against the Hawks, leading 23-16 at intermission. The Panthers’ lead was nine points going to the final eight minutes.
That was when PG changed gears and outscored the Panthers 18-7 for the win. Tevondrick Henry scored 9 of his team-high 14 points in the second half. Noah Fawbush scored 6 of his 8 in the fourth quarter.
El Dorado takes two from Razorbacks
EL DORADO, Ark. – Diamond Hawthorne had 15 points and 9 rebounds in leading El Dorado’s girls past Arkansas High, 52-34.
Jessica Morton had 10 points for the winners. Staijah Taylor led the Lady Backs with 9 points. Jamyia Montgomery tallied 7 points and Kiara Young added 6.
El Dorado’s boys were nursing a 38-33 lead in the third quarter when they went on a 10-1 run to pull away and beat the Razorbacks, 67-56.
Jaylon Randal led Arkansas High with 18 points, while Cameron Dorn scored 13.

Tigers roar past Greenville
Texas High (26-8, 7-2) swished 10 treys Tuesday night at the Tiger Center and roared past Greenville (13-20, 2-7) in District 15-5A play, 84-73.
Senior Kyle Wright had five of those treys on Senior Night, finishing with a game-high 26 points. C.J. Kelly contributed 21 points while seniors Cole Drumm and Matt Arnold scored 15 and 12, respectively.
The Tigers’ junior varsity won, 85-52. Ben DePriest tallied 20 points, and THS improved to 20-4 on the season and 9-0 in district. Texas High’s freshmen routed the Lions, 66-31. Michael Thomas had 24 points for the winners. THS is 22-1 on the season and 9-1 in district.
