Friends College (2-9) took advantage of five walks in the early innings Friday to salvage a split in the nightcap with Texas A&M University Texarkana, 3-2.
The Falcons built a 3-0 cushion in the second game with the help of the free passes issued by right-hander Caleb Baker.
Texarkana (4-2) made a game of it in the fourth on a two-run single by Cole Chambers.
Austin Eggleston went the distance on the mound for the winners. He scattered six hits, walked one and struck out seven in his shutout win.
Davis, Connolly combine for shutout
Jared Davis recorded his first pitching win of the year in Friday’s opener, 5-0. Davis went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three hits, walking two and striking out three. Cole Connolly picked up a save, holding Friends hitless the final two frames.
Pinch-hitter Cal Pequeno plated two runs in the sixth with a single to make the Eagles’ lead 5-0.
Isaac D’Agostino, Chambers and Tye Holliday led the Eagles at the plate with two hits each.
The two schools play another doubleheader Saturday, beginning at noon.
