The Arkansas High Girls bowling team won Class 5A State title Wednesday in Cabot, Arkansas.

Coach Roger Rico brought out the best in the girls, including getting a new Arkansas girls’ postseason tournament record 756 series from senior Linda Himes.  The team, which won the Conference tournament last Friday in Conway, fought hard and performed together. Sophomore Tricia Himes, a bronze medalist at Conference, was also an All-State bowler Wednesday.

Arkansas High girls took the early lead and never looked back

The girls started strong, and led after the first two games, aided by Linda’s 278 and 277 games. Greenbrier caught them game 3, and held a 12 pin lead going into the 4 game  Baker format. The two teams remained close, as Arkansas High was still 11 pins behind after two games with two to play. They stayed strong together, all bowling as one, and took a one pin leading heading into the final game.

The Razorbacks finished their last game strong, and awaited the final score from Greenbrier. Greenbrier’s final game wasn’t enough, and the Razorbacks won the title by 50 pins.

Coach Rico deserves a lot of credit for getting these girls to believe in each other. Despite the individual awards of the Himes girls, it was a true team effort winning this tournament
