TEXARKANA – The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigated an accident involving a woman being struck in the roadway by a vehicle on North Kings Highway.
At approximately 6:20 a.m. Saturday, officers arrived at North Kings Highway in the 4000 block near Interstate 30 to discover a white female suffering from life threatening injuries, police say. Traffic investigators were notified and investigated the crash. According to police, a gray Jeep Compass was traveling southbound on North Kings Highway in the left lane and struck the female, identified as Samantha Desmarais of Texarkana, who was walking southbound in the center lane.
According to police, as the Compass approached, Desmarais turned and walked in front of the vehicle, which was unable to stop before hitting the pedestrian. Desmarais died as a result of the injuries. According to police, Desmarais was wearing earbuds and may not have been able to hear the vehicle approaching.
The driver of the Compass was identified as Jill East of Texarkana, according to police. Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the TTPD at 903-798-3116 or Crime Stoppers at 903-793-STOP.
