ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced Monday the signing of outfielder Ben Revere to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training.
The move now brings the club’s spring training roster to 67 with 40 major league players and 27 non-roster invitees.
The 30-year-old started out 2018 with the Cincinnati Reds organization, but was released on March 24. The Los Angeles Angels signed him on March 29, and Revere played with Triple-A Salt Lake, hitting .277 with a .726 OPS through 40 games while missing two months with a left foot fracture.
Revere’s last major league appearance was in 2017 with the Angels, where he had a .275 batting average in 109 games. The left-handed batter played centerfield throughout his career, but has also played at both left and right-field spots.
The Minnesota Twins drafted Revere 28th overall in the 2007 June draft. In addition to the Twins (2010-12), Revere has played for the Philadelphia Phillies (2013-15), where he tied for the National League lead for hits in 2014, Toronto Blue Jays (2015), Washington Nationals (2016), and Angels (2017). Revere’s career stats are .284/.319/.343/.661 across 857 major league games.
