2019 Arbor Day Celebration for Texarkana is this Saturday, March 2nd.
Several local organizations have partnered with the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Arkansas Forestry Commission to giveaway trees. It will occur during Texarkana’s 5th Annual Arbor Day celebration. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Spring Lake Park across from the Rotary Splash Pad.
Entities there will include, City of Texarkana, Texas Parks and Recreation Department, Texarkana, Texas Planning and Community Development Department. The Arkansas Forestry Commission, and the Texas A&M Forest Service will also be on-hand.
These groups will to help give away approximately 1200 bare root seedlings from 10 different hardwood species.
The public is invited to participate in the 2019 Arbor Day Celebration tree giveaway, by selecting free trees to take home and plant on a first-come first-serve basis. The tree species include, Pecan, White oak, Shumard oak, and Cherrybark oak. Also available will be Sawtooth oak, Blackgum, River birch, Live oak, and Bald cypress. These have been carefully researched by a certified arborist and were selected to thrive in
Texarkana’s climate.
