Three boys teams, and two girls teams from the Southwest Arkansas region, remain alive in the Arkansas state basketball tournaments.

Lafayette County’s boys were playing Marked Tree late Thursday, in a 2A quarterfinal game at Carlisle.

Magnolia’s boys are hosting the 4A tournament, and qualified for the quarterfinals Thursday with a 64-56 win over Morrilton. The Panthers (21-5) play Blytheville (21-6), Friday at 8:30 p.m.

De Queen’s girls remained alive Thursday with a 46-43 win over Highland in Magnolia. The Lady Leopards (28-3) play Harrison at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Ashdown boys win in Arkansas 3A tournament

Ashdown’s boys (25-2) rallied from a 24-21 halftime deficit Thursday to eliminate Tuckerman, 66-48. The Panthers face their biggest test to date Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Oscelola against Little Rock Baptist Prep (30-3).

Both Ashdown and Fouke’s girls were eliminated at Osceola. Harding Academy (26-7) survived a late rally by Ashdown (18-12), 58-54. Fouke led 27-26 at halftime, but couldn’t hold off Atkins, 67-58.

Spring Hill’s girls (23-6) have a quarterfinal game Friday at 1 p.m. against Melbourne (27-4). Marmaduke eliminated Murfreesboro (20-13), 66-40.

Baseball

Tigers win pair in McKinney

MCKINNEY, Texas – Texas High won twice Thursday in the Collin County Invitational Baseball tournament.

The Colony rallied from an early 4-1 deficit to tie the Tigers, 4-4. Texas High scored in the bottom of the fifth, winning 5-4 when the game was called because of a time limit. Connor Allred was the winning pitcher in relief of Rian Cellers. Cole Jean led the Tigers at the plate with three hits, while Cellers and Chris Sutton contributed run-scoring hits.

McKinney Boyd jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against the Tigers and winning pitcher Cameron Radney. THS got on the scoreboard in the third, adding four runs in the fifth on its way to a 5-2 victory in six innings. Jackson Halter and Chris Lyles had two hits each for Texas High. Cellers drove home two runs with a hit, and stole two bases. The Tigers finished the game with six stolen bases.

Softball

Lady Backs whip Arkadelphia, 11-5

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Jordyn Standley performed well in the circle and at the plate Thursday in leading Arkansas High’s softball team past Arkadelphia, 11-5.

Standley went the distance in the circle, walking one and striking out six. She contributed three hits and drove in two runs for the Lady Backs.

Adison Wright hit a home run for Arkansas High, while Kailey Burns made an impression with three hits and four RBI. Kaitlyn Fortenberry and Ajahi Cheatham had two hits each, both scoring a run.

Texas High wins twice in Longview event

LONGVIEW, Texas – Texas High’s softball team won both of its games Thursday in the Longview Invitational Softball tournament.

The Lady Tigers beat Edgewood, 6-1. THS romped in its second game over Paul Pewitt, 18-0.

In other tournament action Pleasant Grove split a pair of games in the Elysian Fields tournament. The Lady Hawks routed Garrison, 11-1. Marshall spoiled the day with an 8-3 win over Pleasant Grove.
