COLLEGE STATION — The Incarnate Word Cardinals had a four-run fifth inning that bolstered their 6-5 win over the Texas A&M Aggies Wednesday at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The Aggies fell behind 6-2 and scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to get within two, and later added a run in the sixth. However, the Maroon and White could not plate the tying run over the next three innings.

Braden Shewmake went 2-of-5 with two RBI as part of seven Aggies who accounted for the team’s eight hits. Ty Coleman was 1-of-3 with a double, one run, one walk, and a RBI.

Starter Chris Weber went 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two. Christian Roa was pinned with the loss in relief as he went for 1.2 innings, allowed three runs on two hits and a walk while fanning one. Mason Cole had a career-high in innings pitched with 2.1 and scattered three hits while fanning two.

The Aggies are now 8-2 on the year while Incarnate Word is 7-2.

Texas A&M heads to Minute Maid Park for the Shriners College Classic. The Aggies open play Friday against the Baylor Bears with first pitch at 7:02 p.m.
