Keaton Russo had seven hits in Pleasant Grove's four games at the Marshall Invitational. Russo hit a grand slam against host Marshall.

 

MARSHALL, Texas – Pleasant Grove finished 3-1 in the Marshall Invitational Friday. The Hawks routed host Marshall, 16-1, while avenging their only loss with a 3-2 win over Carthage.

The Hawks banged out 17 hits, including eight for extra bases against the Mavericks. Keaton Russo led the assault with a grand slam and double. Jackson Cobb had two doubles, a single and three RBI. Tucker Anderson drove in three runs with a double and single. Seth Hopkins, Marshall Cox and Parker Twisdale had two hits each.

Alex Galvan was the winning pitcher, striking out seven in six innings of work.

Pleasant Grove improved to 6-3 on the season by defeating Carthage. Ryan Galvan was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts. Russo led PG at the plate with two hits. Anderson, Hopkins and Andrew LeGrand had one hit each.

Earlier in the tournament Carthage blanked the Hawks, 2-0. Anderson was the hard-luck loser on the mound. He scattered four hits in six innings, striking out five. Russo and Ben Harmon had two hits each for PG.

The Hawks also edged Marshall, 3-2. Coe Blain was the winning pitcher, with late relief from Marshall Oubre. Twisdale had a double for the winners, with Russo, Anderson and LeGrand adding one hit each.

Pleasant Grove opens District 15-4A play next Tuesday at Pittsburg.

Softball

Arkansas High routs Lady Leopards

ASHDOWN, Ark. – Adison Wright drove home five runs, including a 3-run homer in Friday’s 15-5 win over Liberty-Eylau in the Ashdown tournament.

Kaitlyn Fortenberry went the distance in the circle for the win. She walked one and struck out eight. Fortenberry also contributed two singles at the plate. Jordyn Standley and Kailey Burns had three hits each for the Lady Backs, now 2-1 on the season.

Lady Warriors fall to Bloomburg

BLOOMBURG, Texas – Trinity Christian’s softball team slipped to 0-2 on the season Friday by losing to Bloomburg, 22-5.

Hallie Fant led the Lady Warriors at the plate with two singles and a run scored. Rylee Davison doubled and scored a run.
