White Sox drub Rangers 12-2

SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Rangers lost to the White Sox, 12-2, on Saturday in Surprise. Texas led throughout the early portion of the game following a strong start from Edinson Vólquez, who held the visitors scoreless over his 3.0 innings of work. The right-hander allowed just two hits and struck out Chicago’s Leury García and Eloy Jiménez in the process. In his last two starts, Vólquez has tossed 5.0 shutout innings with three hits allowed, three strikeouts, and zero walks. Joey Gallo opened the scoring with a two-strike RBI double in the bottom of the 1st inning. The double scored Shin-Soo Choo, who led off the inning with a walk.

Gallo has reached safely in five straight games, going 5-for-12 in those contests. Chicago plated eight runs in the 5th and 6th innings off a trio of Texas relievers, sending nine batters to the plate in a six-run 5th. Willie Calhoun’s RBI groundout in the 8th accounted for Texas’ second run. Isiah Kiner-Falefa notched a line-drive single to right field in his first at-bat to extended his hitting streak to six games at 7-for-12. Shawn Kelley saw his first ‘A’ game action of the spring, working around a leadoff double to register a scoreless 7th inning.

The Rangers return to Scottsdale on Sunday to play the Giants at 3:05 p.m. CT. LHP Drew Smyly (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Rangers against Giants RHP Jeff Samardzija (0-0, 0.00).
