GILMER, Texas – Liberty-Eylau’s girls swept the three relay races this weekend, winning the annual Buckeye Relays at Gilmer High School.
The Lady Leopards piled up 162 points to edge 6A Tyler Lee, which finished with 155.5. Host Gilmer was third with 154.5, followed by Nacogdoches, Marshall and Paris.
L-E’s Lamiah George, Lauren Jeffery, Chelsea Simmons and Danielle Thomas ran a state-best 47.53 for Class 4A, easily winning the 4 x 100 relay. Daycoria Meadows was the only change in the 4 x 200 relay, and the Lady Leopards cruised to victory in 1:43.31.
The foursome of Skylier Bailey, George, Meadows and Thomas won the 4 x 400 relay in 4:09.29.
L-E won gold medals in eight events
Liberty-Eylau won individual gold in three running events and two field events.
Kurstyn Bailey won the 100 meters in 12.40, and then brought home silver in the 200 with a time of 26.18. Skylier Bailey won the 800 in 2:34.38, while Breanna Webster prevailed in the 400 (1:03.41). Taoni Reynolds was second in the 100 hurdles in 17.12.
Thomas won the long jump with a leap of 17-4 1/2, while teammate K Norris was third at 16-3. K Norris soared to gold in the triple jump with a leap of 38-1 1/2. Her twin K Norris was third at 34-7.
