
LONG BEACH, Calif. — The No. 20 TCU Horned Frogs scored seven unanswered runs to down the Long Beach State Dirtbags 10-4 Sunday afternoon at Blair Field.
Long Beach State held a 4-3 lead after the first three innings. In the top of the sixth, the Horned Frogs batted around and scored four times to take a 7-4 lead. Zach Humphreys tied the game with a base hit, Adam Oviedo hit a two-run triple, and a wild pitch then allowed Oviedo to score.
TCU piled on in the seventh as they scored five runs to take a 9-4 lead. Josh Watson hit a ground-out RBI in the ninth inning to establish the game’s 10-4 final score.
Charles King allowed one hit and a walk while fanning two through five innings of relief of starter Brandon Williamson. King picked up his first win of the season, and did so entering a tied game with bases loaded. The Frogs defense got a double play and a ground out to get out of the inning with only one more run scoring.
In total, TCU’s bullpen threw seven shutout innings. Along with King, Cal Coughlin, Augie Mihlbauer, and Marcelo Perez held Long Beach State to just three hits and walked three.
The Frogs are 9-5 on the season and wrap up their California road trip with a Tuesday night game at San Diego. First pitch is at 8:00 p.m. Central Time.
