AUSTIN, Texas – Jared Davis continues to be the unluckiest pitcher on Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s roster, while the Eagles’ softball squad dropped a doubleheader at LSU-Alexandria.
Davis got no support at the plate Friday afternoon as the Eagles lost the first game of a doubleheader to Huston-Tillotson, 2-0. Davis allowed five hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out two. Jake McDonald, Cal Pequeno and Keone McKee each had a single for Texarkana.
The Eagles improved to 12-14 overall and 5-3 in the Red River Athletic Conference in the nightcap with a 9-2 win. The margin of victory came late with the game tied 2-2 after seven innings. Texarkana scored three runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth.
Cole Connally went the distance on the mound, scattering seven hits in nine innings. He allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out six.
No Texarkana batter had more than one hit. Brayden Cook and McKee had two-run singles. McDonald had an RBI-single and scored a run. Tye Holliday drove in a run with a double, and Wyatt Stavinoha had a run-scoring single.
Eagles’ softball team drops pair at Alexandria
ALEXANDRIA, La. – Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s softball team got off to a bad start Friday against LSU-Alexandria. The Eagles’ evening ended on a nightmarish note.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Eagles took a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the seventh. That’s when Alexandria (13-5, 2-0) rallied for three runs with two outs. LSU-Alexandria won the opener, 5-0.
The Eagles had started the day unbeaten in the Red River Athletic Conference, but slipped to 8-7 on the year and 3-2 in conference.
Texarkana managed four hits in the first game off winning pitcher RyLeigh Rutherford. Gracelyn Spring, Jaden Lance and Kayla Mahan had the Eagles’ hits. Cassie Vasquez was the losing pitcher.
Kacey Maines and Baylee Taylor had two hits each for the Eagles in the second game. Ashley Nipper went the distance in the circle for Texarkana and suffered the loss.
