
AUSTIN, Texas – Tye Holliday’s 2-run single in the seventh inning proved decisive Saturday with Texas A&M University-Texarkana slipping past Huston-Tillotson, 3-1.
The Eagles (14-14, 6-3) have now taken their first three Red River Athletic Conference series 2-1. They travel to Lyon College in Arkansas next Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader, returning to league play Friday at Texas College in Tyler.
Sam Wells turned in a strong performance on the mound in beating the Rams. He went seven innings, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out three. Zac Harrington and Michael Herrera both threw an inning of relief. Huston-Tillotson’s only run came in the ninth, and it was unearned.
Tim Frith led Texarkana at the plate with a double and single, scoring a run and driving home another. Cole Chambers had two hits and scored a run. Cal Pequeno also had two hits for the winners.
LSU-Alexandria sweeps Eagles’ softball team
ALEXANDRIA, La. – Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s presence at the top of the Red River Athletic Conference softball standings didn’t last long.
LSU-Alexandria improved to 14-5 on the year and 3-0 in conference after sweeping its three-game series with the Eagles, 5-4.
Hannah Cooper and L Huff had two-run hits for the Eagles, who fall to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the RRAC. Freshman Lauren Henson was the losing pitcher.
