AUSTIN, Texas – No. 9 Texas Baseball got into an early deficit and was unable to come back, falling 11-4 to No. 11 Arkansas on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The bright spot of the night was a solid relief outing from freshman Owen Meaney. The righthander settled the game down out of the bullpen, pitching five scoreless innings. Meaney allowed just two hits and one walk and struck out two batters.
After a five-pitch first inning for Texas starter Jack Neely, Arkansas was able to tag him for six runs in the second. The inning included a grand slam to left field and a solo homer to right-center.
The Razorbacks added four more runs in the third inning to take a 10-0 lead. Another run crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 11-0.
Texas put up a four-spot in the fourth inning to trim the Arkansas lead to 11-4. Austin Todd started the inning with a single and Zach Zubia doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Tate Shaw hit a two-run double to right field to get the Longhorns on the board.
Caston Peter followed with a two-run homer to left field, his second of the season, to make the score 11-4.
Texas and Arkansas will meet again Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
