Tide forces rubber match with Hogs

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama Crimson Tide held the Arkansas Razorbacks to four hits and shut them out 10-0 Saturday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

The Hogs and the Tide will square off in game three to determine the winner of the series.

“We spotted them a three-run lead in the second inning and we missed some pitches,” said Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn. “We hit a couple of balls hard and had a few line outs with runners on first and third, but we had that bad hop play at third at the end of the second inning when we had only given up one run.

“There wasn’t much he could have done about it. We just got off to a bad start on the mound. Our starting pitcher [Connor Noland] was behind, he didn’t have his breaking ball today and wasn’t spotting his fastball. They were hitting a lot of balls hard. They kind of took it to us, offensively.”

Noland went 1.2 innings, his shortest outing of the season, and he gave up three runs in the second inning. Kole Ramage spelled him out of the bullpen, and retired the first 10 batters he faced. However, Ramage gave up three straight hits in the sixth inning that led to a line of eight Tide batters reaching base before the Razorbacks could even register an out.

The hitting was equally subpar. Case Martin, Dominic Fletcher, Trey Harris, and Jacob Nesbit were the only Hogs to record a hit, and Arkansas coudl not get a runner past second base the entire game.

Arkansas suffers its first conference loss of the season. The rubber match will be played Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on Fox Sports 1400 AM with pregame at 12:30 p.m.
