
Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s softball team has won four of its last five Red River Athletic Conference games and climbed back into postseason contention.
The Eagles (11-10, 6-5) swept a doubleheader Thursday at Spring Lake Park from Huston-Tillotson, 8-0 and 5-3.
Senior Cassie Vasquez was in control all six innings in the opener as TAMU-T run-ruled the Rams. Vasquez allowed three hits, walked three and struck out six.
Morgan Bullock drove in three runs with a double and scored another run. Kacey Maines tripled home two runs and scored twice. Jaden Lance singled home two runs, and Lauren Bierschenk added a run-scoring hit.
The host team scored first in the second game when Hannah Cooper tripled down the right field line. She scored on Bullock’s single to left. Cooper also had a two-run double. She came into Thursday’s action hitting .451. Bullock scored a run and added a single later in the game.
Eagles rally past Huston-Tillotson
Huston-Tillotson was leading 3-2 when the Eagles rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The key hit was a run-scoring double by pinch-hitter Kailee King. Bierschenk contributed two hits and an RBI.
Ashley Nipper was the winning pitcher in relief. In three innings she had five strikeouts.
The two schools meet again Friday for one game. After that the Eagles’ softball team won’t be back in action until April 9 for a non-conference doubleheader with Lyon College.
