
Texas A&M University-Texarkana was one strike away from victory Friday at George Dobson Field. Three singles later the game was destined for extra innings.
Our Lady of the Lake University completed its dramatic comeback with a single run in the 11th inning for a 6-5 victory. The Saints improve to 19-16 overall and 11-4 in the Red River Athletic Conference. The Eagles slip to 21-17 on the season and 9-6 in conference.
It was the Saints striking first Friday, two on a home run by N Ludwig in the first inning. Our Lady of the Lake led 4-1 going to the bottom of the sixth.
That when Texarkana loaded the bases and Tim Frith lined a drive to center, which took a wicked bounce past the Saints’ outfielder. The result was an inside-the-park grand slam, giving the Eagles a 5-4 lead.
TAMU-T managed just one hit the rest of the way off Saints’ relievers, with Ryan Ramsey getting the win. Seven pitchers toed the mound for the Eagles. Riley Owen was the fifth and suffered the loss. Texarkana relievers Caleb Baker and Zac Harrington were outstanding in holding the Saints scoreless for six innings.
Keone McKee led the Eagles at the plate with four singles. Cal Hodgins had three hits, while Isaac D’Agostino and Parker Depasquale had two hits each.
The Eagles travel to Alexandria, La. next week to play LSU-Alexandria.
Eagles’ softball team completes series sweep
Huston Tillotson scored first and last Friday, but still dropped a 6-3 decision to Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s softball team.
The visiting Rams scored twice in the first, only to see Texarkana capture the lead with one run in the third and two in the fourth. The Eagles put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth.
Cassie Vasquez went the distance in the circle, scattering eighth hits, walking two and striking out three.
Jordyn Logan led the Eagles at the plate with a double and single. She scored a run and drove in three more. Kacey Maines had a triple and single, while Jaden Lance contributed two singles. Lauren Bierschenk scored twice and hit a double.
TAMU-T (12-10, 7-5) is currently tied for fourth place in the RRAC with Our Lady of the Lake.
