Child dies, parents charged by Texarkana Arkansas Police.
In an update on a story we told you about yesterday, unfortunately a young child who was unresponsive, and suffering from apparent abuse has died.
The Texarkana Arkansas Police released the following statement this afternoon on the case and the fact that this is Child Abuse Awareness Month:
Sadly, the victim in this case was pronounced dead at 5:10pm, yesterday evening at Arkansas children’s hospital.
Currently, TAPD Detectives are at the Arkansas State Crime lab awaiting autopsy results.
The course of this investigation led Detectives to believe an overwhelming amount of abuse occurred, of not only the deceased, but also of her 2-year-old brother.
At this time, 26 year old McKenna Cawley has been charged with Capital Murder and Domestic Battery in the 2nd Degree. 23 year old Everette Cawley has been charged with 2 counts of permitting the abuse of
a minor. TAPD will continue working with the Prosecutor on any additional charges.
The Arkansas Department of Child Protective Services have been working diligently to ensure the safety of the toddler and infant.
The month of April is Child abuse awareness month. We encourage you to wear blue on Friday, April 10th , in honor of this deceased child and all other children who have suffered
abuse. Miller County currently has only 4 foster parent homes. The need is great. Please contact DHS if you are interested in providing children a safe and loving home.
