LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech’s Dru Baker was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Baker produced a Big 12-high 12 hits throughout last week, recording multi-hit performances in all five of the Red Raiders’ games. He hit .522 along with a home run and three doubles and four RBI, which was top spot in total bases and second in slugging percentage.
It is the first weekly honor for Baker and the fourth for the Red Raiders in 2019. He is now the third Texas Tech rookie to earn such an award, joining freshman Tanner O’Tremba (Feb. 25) and sophomore Dylan Neuse (March 11).
Texas Tech returns to the diamond Tuesday when they face New Mexico State at 7:00 p.m. in Midland at Security Bank Ballpark.
