
ARLINGTON, Texas – UT-Arlington took advantage of a pair of errors to build a 6-0 lead and held on to hand TCU a 6-3 loss on Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark. Jake Guenther, Alex Isola and Johnny Rizer each tallied a pair of hits in the game.
UT-Arlington opened the scoring in the fourth as it took advantage of a lead-off double. Two flyouts later, the Mavericks lead 1-0.
An error in the third proved costly as it led to a trio of runs for UT-Arlington . With two in scoring position, an infield single and a sacrifice fly made it a 3-0 game. A two-out single from Will Olson drove in the final run of the inning. The Mavericks added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to open up a 6-0 lead.
TCU broke through in the sixth inning with a pair of run. Jake Guenther and Alex Isola singled to open the inning. A wild pitch had both runners in scoring position and Johnny Rizer delivered a two-run single up the middle to make it a 6-2 ballgame.
The Frogs didn’t go quietly, scoring a run on a Zach Humphreys groundout in the eighth. With two outs in the ninth, the Frogs put the tying run on base with walks to Josh Watson and Isola around a Guenther base hit. UTA closer Andrew Gross wiggled off the hook with a ground out to end the game.
Jared Janczak (0-2) tossed 4 1/3 innings. He allowed six runs (two earned) on six hits, walked one and struck out two. Haylen Green and Matt Rudis allowed one combined runner over the last 3 2/3 innings of the game. The pair fanned seven.
With the loss, TCU falls to 22-13 overall. The Horned Frogs will stay on the road as they travel to Kansas State for a three game series starting Thursday night at 6 p.m. Nick Lodolo will get the start for the Frogs.
