COMMERCE, Texas – Rain almost became a nightmare Thursday for Liberty-Eylau’s softball team.
Thursday’s schedule had the Lady Leopards playing Pittsburg at Northeast Texas Community College. It was set up for a 7 p.m. start so three key L-E starters would arrive from the Area track meet at Spring Hill in time to play in the game.
When heavy rain put the track meet on hold, and the softball game was moved to Commerce because of the rain, it didn’t look good for L-E.
However, it all worked out. The three players in question made it to the game. They combined for six hits to help the Leopards beat Pittsburg, 7-4. The win earns L-E the second seed in District 15-4A, with the Lady Pirates go into the postseason as the league’s third seed. North Lamar won, and Pleasant Grove is the fourth seed.

Savannah Phelps, Tamara Norris, Mariah Coleman, Kaclyn Nelson and Tyrah Venable all had one hit for the Leopards.
