MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State walked-off with a wild 11-10 victory over TCU on Saturday afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium. The contest saw a couple comebacks as the Wildcats rallied from a 6-1 deficit and TCU fought back from a 10-6 hole.
The Horned Frogs fought back with four two-out runs in the top of the ninth. Hunter Wolfe drove in Adam Oviedo and after a walk to Josh Watson, Jake Guenther launched a three-run home run to center to tie the game at 10.
It was to be as the Wildcats scored in the bottom of the inning to steal the victory. The first two batters reached and moved into scoring position on a one-out wild pitch. Rainer Ausmus dropped down a suicide squeeze to bring home the winning run.
TCU opened the scoring in the second. Alex Isola and Johnny Rizer opened the frame with back-to-back singles. Austin Henry followed with an RBI-single for a 1-0 lead. An RBI-groundout from Zach Humphreys pushed the advantage to 2-0.
Three more runs crossed the plate in the third as the lead grew to five. Josh Watson started the scoring with a solo home run to left center. Jake Guenther doubled and scored on a two-out single from Rizer. An error allowed Rizer to score from first to make it a 5-0 game.
Kansas State got on the board in the bottom of the third on a lead-off home run from Chris Ceballos. That long ball was matched by Hunter Wolfe in the seventh to restore the five run lead, 6-1.
The Wildcats comeback started with two outs in the seventh. With two outs, five straight batters reached and four scored to pull Kansas State within one, 6-5.
Kansas State completed the comeback in the eighth. For the second straight inning, the Wildcats batted around scoring five times on five hits.
Brandon Williamson was strong in his 6 2/3 innings on the mound. The junior allowed three runs on just one hit. He walked two and struck out a career-high eight batters.
With the loss, TCU falls to 23-15 overall and 6-6 in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs will open up a four-game homestand Tuesday night when they host Dallas Baptist at 6:30 p.m.
