LAWRENCE, Kan. – Lance Ford drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, but a three-run bottom of the ninth gave the Kansas Jayhawks a 4-2 win over Texas Baseball in the series opener Friday at Hoglund Ballpark.

Bryce Elder was outstanding yet again, pitching 7 1/3 innings and allowing just one run on three hits. The sophomore struck out five batters on the night.

Texas got the first run of the game in the top of the third after Lance Ford was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Michael McCann sacrificed Ford to second base and Duke Ellis drove him in with an RBI single after a great 10-pitch at-bat.

Kansas tied the game up 1-1 in the sixth inning after a leadoff single, a sacrifice bunt and a one-out RBI single.

The Longhorns scratched out a run in the top of the ninth to go up 2-1. Zach Zubia hit a lead off single and Kamron Fields pinch-ran for him. With two outs, Ford singled up the middle to drive in Fields.

The Jayhawks hit a pair of home runs in the bottom of the ninth, including a two-run walk-off shot.

Texas will try to even the series with Kansas on Saturday at 2 p.m.
