Former Texas High golfer Garrett May shot 66 Wednesday in leading Baylor to the NCAA Championships for the fourth straight year.

 

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Texas High graduate Garrett May posted a 5-under-par 66 Wednesday, earning Baylor its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships.

Tied for third place with No. 1 Oklahoma State University at the start of the day, May helped the Bears shoot a 7-under 277 in the final round. Baylor finished third by itself at 845. OSU rallied with 11 birdies over the final six holes to finish first at 838. Auburn was second (842), and North Florida was the final qualifier at 852.

May ties for sixth as individual

May’s 66 propelled him 15 spots in the medalist competition into a tie for sixth place at 209 (4-under). Colin Kober shot 69 in the final round for Baylor. Ryan Grider posted a 70 and Cooper Dossey shot 72.

May is a senior All-American this spring, having played all four years for the Bears. He was all-state his senior at Texas High. He was a four-year letterman for coach Jay Brewer. Two years ago May shot 63 in the Gopher Invitational.

The NCAA Championships will be held May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. There will be 30 teams in the field, including five from the Big 12. Besides OSU and Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas and TCU qualified in other regionals.
