East, Burnett post 63 in SWSGA 2-man scramble at New Haven

Larry East and Jerry Burnett won the 2-man scramble in the Southwest Arkansas Seniors Golf Association at New Haven Golf Club in Texarkana. East and Burnett shot an 8-under-par 63.

Paul Jones and John McLaughlin finished second in the scramble with a 68, while East also teamed with Pete Simpson to capture third with a 69. Clif Perkins and Ricky Goodson shot even par 71 for fourth place.

Royal, Hughes win scramble at New Haven

The B Flight was won by Ira Royal and Eddie Hughes with a 68.

There was a three-way deadlock for second place decided by a scorecard playoff, starting with the second hole. Levi Pigeon and Jim Hastings prevailed after shooting 74. William Turley and Michael Penney also shot 74, and placed third. Don Moore and John Wedehase took home the fourth place prize.

The SWSGA will have a 2-man shamble June 6 at Texarkana Golf Ranch.

Bill Rogers on winning scramble team again

HOUSTON, Texas – Former Texarkana resident Bill Rogers teamed with Julie Inkster, Fuzzy Zoeller and Ben Crenshaw to win the 8th annual 3M Greats of Golf Scramble at the Champions Tour Insperity Invitational.

Rogers, and his teammates posted a score of 13-under-par. The 1981 British Open champion was also on the winning team in 2018.

This year’s tournament featured four great LPGA golfers. Joining Inkster in the field were Annika Sorenstam, Nancy Lopez and Pat Bradley.

Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Lee Trevino were in the field for the eighth straight year. Nicklaus, Player and Arnold Palmer won the first event in 2012.
