Gas prices in Texarkana are five cents lower than the average in the state of Texas.
According to AAA Texas, the average gas price in the Texarkana area was $2.41 per gallon compared to $2.46 per gallon throughout the rest of the Lone Star State.
The gas prices in Texarkana are tied with the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood and Waco areas for the 13th-lowest in the state. The highest gas prices are in El Paso at $2.76, one cent higher than the national average.
A week ago fuel prices were $2.29 in Texarkana. Still, the $2.41 per gallon is 18 cents lower than it was a year ago.
“While gas prices are increasing, Texas drivers will still pay less for gas this Independence Day compared to one year ago,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “The statewide average is 19 cents cheaper per gallon today than compared to this time last year.”
Part of what is driving up the prices is the expected volume of drivers during the Fourth of July weekend. AAA is expecting a record 3.5 million or more Texans to be on the road, the most since the AAA began tracking this data in 2000. The national travel volume is expected to rise to nearly 49 million people, a 4.1% increase over the last calendar year.
