Twins

Texarkana, USA – July 9, 2019 –  The Twins (14-13) rebounded in a big way tonight, trouncing the visiting Baton Rouge Rougarou (8-22) by a score of 11-3! And it all started in the first inning.

The Rougarou struck first scoring a run off of Twins Starter Michael McElmeel but their lead did not last long as the Twins rode 3 straight Singles by the top of their lineup, which included Tom Lichty extending his hitting streak to 15 straight games with at least one hit, to plate a total of 3 runs in the first, thus taking a 3-1 lead. And it would only get worse for the Rougarou from there. After a quiet second inning and top of the 3rd, Lee Thomas came up to the plate with 1 out and the bases empty in the Bottom of the 3rd. He proceeded to clobber the first pitch to him and skied a ball over the right field wall for his team leading 4th Home Run of the season. Then after the Twins put up 4 more runs in the 4th and adding one more in 5th to take a commanding 9-1 lead. The teams then both added 2 runs in the 8th inning to give us our final score of 11-3.

Twins beat Rougarou with Offensive Explosion

Not only was the offense fantastic, the pitching was great as well. The twins pitching staff had a rough road trip giving up 29 runs over 4 games but they found their grove again tonight. Especially the tall righty Brock Booker. Booker came in during the 4th inning to relieve McElmeel (3.1 IP, 1 ER, 4 K) with 2 men on and 1 down in the inning. Booker then proceeded to pitch 3.2 innings, striking out 5 and not allowing a single base runner. That performance, combined with the fact that McElmeel did not go 5 innings, earned Booker his first win on the season.
