NEW BOSTON, Texas — An officer from the Hooks Police Department arrested a car burglar after the suspect fled on foot following crashing his vehicle into a ditch during a pursuit.
44-year-old Jamie Dale Fite of New Boston lost control of his black Chevrolet truck on Highway 8 after fleeing CDM Holdings, the sheriff’s office says. Fite attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended by Hooks police officer Cole Ogden.
According to the sheriff’s office, a call was made on July 12 at approximately 2:30 a.m. that a theft was in progress at CDM Holdings on Highway 98 in New Boston. According to eye witness Martin McGee, an employee of the company, a white man in a black truck with no license plate arrived on the property and began stealing tools and a rifle out of three separate CDM Holdings vehicles.
After Bowie County Sheriff deputies responded, they converged on Fite, according to the law enforcement office, and the suspect accelerated his truck through a fence into a nearby pasture.
During pursuit, Fite lost control of his vehicle and Ogden apprehended him after pursuit on foot.
According to the sheriff’s office, nearly $10,000 worth of CDM Holdings property was recovered from Fite’s truck along with methamphetamine.
According to the sheriff’s office, Fite claimed he was a current employee of Robbins Toyota and used vehicles from their lot without permission to steal property from CDM Holdings, who used to employ Fite. The sheriff office says Fite admitted to stealing five trailers, four of which belonged to his former employer. All five trailers were recovered, and the sheriff office says they have been returned to their rightful owners.
Fite was booked at the Bi-State Jail for Theft Over $2500 and Under $30,000, Theft of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Over One Gram and Under Four Grams.
Fite was also arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle for the truck stolen from Robbins Toyota.
Bond has not been set for Fite on any of his charges at the time of this release, the sheriff office says
