
HASTINGS, Neb. – Texarkana manager Kevin Sutton had warned his Texarkana Bulldogs fast starts were necessary to win in the 2019 American Legion Mid-South Regional Tournament. Bryant (Ark.) did it Friday, and the Bulldogs didn’t.
The Bulldogs found themselves trailing 4-0 going to the sixth inning Friday against Bryant, the Arkansas state champions. Texarkana (34-9-1) never quit, rallying for four runs to tie the score in the sixth, only to see Bryant win, 5-4, in eight innings on a walkoff single by winning pitcher Coby Greiner.
Bryant scored once in the first inning, and three more in the second to build its 4-0 advantage. Greiner drove in a run in the second and scored a run. Jacob Wright drove in a run with one of his three hits, while Logan Chambers contributed two hits and an RBI.
Bryant built early 4-0 cushion
Greiner pitcher 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, walking none and striking out four. William Grant started for Bryant. leaving after three innings of work. He allowed three hits, walked none and struck out five.
Hooks’ Brayden Ross was the hard-luck loser, having relieved Hunter Allen in the third. Ross pitched shutout ball until the eighth. In 5.2 innings he scattered five hits, walked none and struck out three.
T.J. Krause, Keaton Russo drove in the Bulldogs’ first two runs after Marzavin Riles and Chris Sutton had hits. Bryson Rhodes plated Krause and Russo to tie the game. Krause was the only Texarkana player with two hits. Aaron Price also had a single.
