Hudson Hopkins
Former Pleasant Grove baseball player Hudson Hopkins hit a home run and double Monday night in Victoria.

VICTORIA, Texas – Hudson Hopkins has not been hitting well this summer for the Texarkana Twins. That changed Monday night at the best possible time.

The former Pleasant Grove standout hit his first home run of the summer. He added a run-scoring double in the eighth inning to lead the Twins past Victoria, 4-2, as Texarkana clinched a berth in Tuesday’s Texas Collegiate League Championship game. The Twins play host Brazos Valley Tuesday night in College Station.

Hopkins, Booker end Twins slump

Bossier City Community College pitcher Brock Booker started for the Twins to earn the win. Catcher Harrison Engstrom drove in a run in the sixth to make it 3-1. Hopkins’ double made it 4-1 in the eighth. Hopkins will be a sophomore this fall at Louisiana Tech University.

The Twins’ summer record improves to 24-26 after winning their best-of-three series with the Generals, who had won nine of 14 meetings with Texarkana this season.
