As Hurricane Dorian approaches the East Coast, it has not affected gas prices in Texarkana.

According to AAA Texas, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.21, down one-cent from a week ago. These prices are tied with Lubbock and Abilene for the sixth-lowest in the state of Texas. Overall, gas prices in the Lone Star State are $2.29 per gallon, and the national average is $2.57.

Motorists in Odessa are paying the most for gas with a $2.52 price on average. The cheapest gas in Texas can be found in McAllen where the average cost is $2.06.

Compared to a year ago, Texarkana drivers are saving 33 cents at the pump.

“Demand for gas remains high, but not at a level to push pump prices higher, at least not at this point,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “We continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian’s impact on gas prices, which appears to be minimal for now in Texas as the east coast storm is not threatening major oil and gas infrastructure. Price spikes are possible on a local and regional level along the storm’s path on the east coast.”

Hurricane Dorian has no apparent threat to major oil and gas infrastructure, so the impact is expected to stay on its localized path along the East Coast. Florida drivers may see price increases, and the supplies are tight in the Sunshine State and are expected to be the same for South Carolina and Georgia. The severity of Hurricane Dorian will determine the access to fuel supply and impact on gas prices in those three states in the aftermath.
