TEXARKANA, Texas — Quarterback Kai Horton threw for three touchdowns as the Carthage Bulldogs outlasted the Pleasant Grove Hawks 35-14 Friday night at Hawk Stadium.
Horton completed 16-of-27 for 176 yards and threw touchdown passes of 36, 12, and 42. The Bulldogs out-gained the Hawks 389 to 290 and collected 19 first downs to Pleasant Grove’s 13.
Quarterback Ben Harmon threw 13 times for Pleasant Grove, completing three passes for 33 yards and a 7-yard touchdown to Dylan Hopkins. Harmon also added four carries for 26 yards on the ground. Bruce Garrett was the Hawks’ leading rusher with 16 carries for 107 yards and a 34-yard touchdown. The Hawks produced 257 rushing yards on 44 carries on the evening, a 5.8 yards per carry.
Hopkins caught two passes for 16 yards, and Sergio Rodriguez collected a pass for 17.
Pleasant Grove falls to 5-1 on the season. However, their district schedule finally begins on Oct. 11 at Pittsburgh when they face the Pirates at Pirate Stadium.
The Bulldogs improve to 5-0 on the season, and their district schedule also begins next week as they travel to Van to take on the Vandals at Van Memorial Stadium.
