TEXARKANA — The Pleasant Grove Hawks had their way with the Liberty-Eylau Leopards 45-6 at a rain-soaked Harris Field Friday night.

The Hawks’ ground game was perfect for the wet conditions as they churned 391 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 59 carries. Pleasant Grove out-gained the Leopards 525 to 41.

Logan Johnson gained the most rushing yards for the Hawks as he carried 11 times for 151 yards and a touchdown, and also caught an 11-yard pass. Bruce Garrett had the most rushing attempts for Pleasant Grove with 17 and produced 125 yards and a touchdown along with a reception for 18 yards.

Pleasant Grove quarterback Ben Harmon threw 10 passes, completing seven of them for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Sergio Rodriguez caught one of those balls as part of his three-catch, 76-yard performance, and Marcus Burris had another for a 10-yard touchdown. Harmon also carried eight times for 47 yards on the evening.

Liberty-Eylau had an optimistic start to the game when Shannon Roy connected with Malik Watson for a 77-yard touchdown to give the Leopards an early 6-0 lead after a failed point-after attempt. Roy completed 2-of-4 on the night for 74 yards, and Damien Henderson was the Leopards’ leading rusher with four carries for 18 yards. The Hawks managed to score 45 unanswered points to establish the game’s final score.

Pleasant Grove improves to 8-1 on the season with a 3-0 record in district play.

The Leopards fall to 0-8 on the year with an 0-2 record in district play. Liberty-Eylau travels to Pittsburg next Friday night to take on the Pirates at Pirate Stadium in Camp County.
