TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Texas and Texarkana Arkansas Police Departments dedicated their newly remodeled Crime Lab Thursday to retired TAPD detective Bill Sillivan.
Sillivan was the first crime scene detective in Texarkana, and served both the TAPD and the TTPD. After there was confusion in the investigation of the murder of two teens in 1981, Sillivan expressed the need for a dedicated crime scene detective, as both police departments had sundry detectives collecting and handling evidence.
Sillivan trained as Texakana’s first crime scene detective and served in that capacity until his 1990 retirement. That same year, Sillivan’s son, Marc, joined the Texarkana Arkansas police force, and later became “the guru” of crime scene detectives on the Arkansas side until his 2015 retirement. Marc Sillivan now is a crime scene tech, a civilian role, with the Texarkana Texas police force.
In total, the Twin Cities have benefited from the service of the Sillivan family since 1975, and the Texarkana Texas and Texarkana Arkansas Police Departments are grateful for the dedication and expertise of the Sillivan family.
