Just in time for trick or treat season, gas prices in Texarkana have fallen one cent over the past week.
According to new data from AAA Texas, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $2.24 in the Texarkana area, down one cent from a week ago at the same time.
The prices are one cent below the statewide average of $2.25. In terms of the cheapest in Texas, Texarkana’s gas prices are tied with Austin-San Marcos, Beaumont-Port Arthur, Dallas, Fort Worth-Arlington, and Longview for the 12th-cheapest among the 27 statistical metropolitan areas in the weekly price index from AAA Texas.
The costliest gas in the state can be found in El Paso, where drivers are paying $2.37 on average for a gallon of gas. The cheapest in the state is in McAllen, where motorists are paying $2.15 on average.
Texarkana’s prices are a treat compared to the rest of the country as AAA Texas reports the average price of gas in the United State is $2.61, making Texarkana’s prices a full 37 cents cheaper.
Over the coming week and beyond, drivers could see stable or declining gas prices as refinery maintenance across the nation continues. Regional refinery utilization increased from 84.5% to 88% over the past week.
“Regional refinery utilization is increasing which is adding more gasoline supply to the market and keeping prices lower,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “Drivers will likely see cheaper gas prices in the beginning days of November.”
AAA Texas also reminds drivers, since it is Halloween and there will be parents and children going to trick or treat, to be mindful of pedestrians on the roadways. More than usual, children could cross mid-block or between parked cars on residential streets. Drivers should keep their eyes far ahead and anticipate and also stay off their phones to avoid distracted driving.
