
Connor Ouellette scored a career-high 29 points Saturday at the Patterson Student Center to lead Texas A&M University-Texarkana past previously unbeaten Blue Mountain College, 79-77.
The Eagles came out hot in the first half, building a 50-39 cushion. TAMU-T improves to 3-4 in its inaugural season, while BMC (Miss.) slips to 3-1.
The only other Eagle scoring in double digits was senior Desmond Kennedy with 20 points. TAMU-T won the battle on the glass, 40-36, including 13 offensive boards. Anthony McGee led the winning team with seven rebounds, while contributing eight points. Freshman Decorian Phillips came off the bench to add seven points.
Williams leads Blue Mountain
Texarkana hit on 31 of 67 shots (46 percent), and was 9 of 27 from three-point range. The Eagles’ pressing defense came up with 14 steals in the game.
Brandon Williams led Blue Mountain with 21 points, including five treys. Teammate Tyree Beason had 20 points. The Mississippi team outscored the Eagles 38-29 in the final 20 minutes.
TAMU-T will be back in action Tuesday in Little Rock against Philander Smith. The Eagles travel to Dillard (New Orleans) next Saturday.
In other action this weekend the Lady Eagles dropped a pair of games in the LSU-Shreveport Classic. TAMU-T lost to Xavier, 77-38, and was then beaten by Dillard, 67-56. The Eagles are 1-6, having lost five games in a row.
