The Paul Pewitt Brahmas boast the second-best rushing attack in the nation, but it was their defense that stepped up to overcome East Bernard Friday night at Waco ISD Stadium to help the Bulls punch their ticket to AT&T Stadium with a berth in the 3A Division 2 championship game.
Down 18-16 at the half, the Bulls defense pitched a shutout the second half and the offense put together an 18-play drive that hit the opposition in the mouth. The Bulls capped off the extensive drive with a touchdown to take a 24-18 lead after a successful two-point conversion.
LaJathan Allen recorded two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, along with recovering a fumble at the Bulls’ 1-yard line to seal the deal.
The defense came with 2 more stops and the go 14-1 on the year and will take on Gunter Thursday night at 7 for the state title.
