TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD) is investigating a robbery at a convenience store and a subsequent shooting in a nearby neighborhood that occurred Monday night.
According to police, the Valero Convenience Store located in the 2200 block of Richmond Road was robbed as two suspects entered with handguns and demanded money from the cash register.
According to police, the suspects were described as two black males, who threatened to harm the clerk and customers if they did not comply. Police say the suspects fled after obtaining an undisclosed amount of money from the store, and were seen running south.
Police say they received a call of a man who had been shot near the intersection of Belt Road and Champion Place, a block south of the convenience store. According to police, witnesses described hearing a shot outside and saw a man trying to help another man that appeared to have been shot in the leg into a light colored Chevrolet. An unidentified third person drove the vehicle, and police say the driver had been waiting in the vehicle on the two men.
While investigating both of these incidents, there was a call from the 4100 block of Elizabeth Street of a man who had been shot in the leg. The 17-year-old victim told police that he had been shot in the leg while on Belt Road, police say. The 17-year-old was transported via LifeNet to Christus St. Michael Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His condition is currently unknown, and he did undergo surgery.
TTPD detectives believe the robbery and shooting are related, and will continue to investigate.
