Man arrested for aggravated assault


TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Texas Police Department arrested Gavin Baber of Texarkana, Texas, for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury to a man on Saturday morning.

According to police, officers were sent to a residence in the 2400 block of North Akin Road to the report of a fight. Upon arrival, police say they found Baber, 20, and a 49-year-old man fighting in the street. Officers separated the two men and discovered that that 49-year-old man had an injury to his left eye.

Police say that Baber and others arrived at the residence to pick up the victim’s stepson. Police say that witnesses told them that the 49-year-old man demanded that Baber leave the property before Baber threatened and attacked him. According to police, Baber gouged the victim’s eye with his fingers at some point during the altercation.

LifeNet arrived on the scene to evaluate the victim’s condition, and he was transported to Christus St. Michael Hospital. According to police, it was later determined that the victim’s optic nerve had been severed and the injury was considered serious. It is believed that the victim will lose his eye as a result of the assault, police say.

Texarkana, Texas police arrested Baber and transported him to the Bi-State Jail, where he remains in custody with a $100,000 bond.
